On May 12th, the Commission published a questionnaire on the Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Regulation (AFIR) as part of the public consultation that will feed into the ongoing review process and upcoming legislative proposal. Terminal operators are affected by AFIR, primarily due to the requirements regarding the deployment of refueling and recharging infrastructure listed in articles 9 and 11 of the regulation.
The consultation on AFIR opened on the same day as the consultation on the “stress-test” of the nature Directives. FEPORT welcomes that AFIR and the nature Directives are assessed simultaneously as permitting frameworks, both when it comes to procedures and substance, need to be carefully reviewed in order to accelerate the deployment of onshore power supply by 2030 in line with the deadline prescribed by AFIR.
In addition, for a successful deployment of shore-side electricity, FEPORT recommends implementing measures to facilitate access to finance, timely grid connections as well as clear user requirements.
