On May 12th, the European Commission opened a public consultation in the framework of the ongoing “stress-test” of the Birds and Habitats Directives – together known as the “nature Directives” –  which was announced in the environmental Omnibus Communication presented in December 2025.

This stress-test is part of the Commission’s simplification efforts aiming at safeguarding and strengthening EU competitiveness while keeping in pace with the EU’s economic, social and environmental goals.

The consultation can be accessed here.

FEPORT looks forward to contributing to this feedback opportunity and provide recommendations aimed at bringing the nature Directives in tune with evolving EU policy objectives in areas such as decarbonisation, energy security and military preparedness.
