Drohnenaufnahme vom Osten Richtung Burchardkai
A total of 45 European transport organisations have joined forces to urge national governments to strengthen EU funding for transport under the future EU budget, notably by increasing the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) to at least €100 billion.
A robust European transport network is essential for achieving the EU’s strategic objectives, including resilience, military preparedness, industrial competitiveness and supply chain sovereignty. However, despite growing ambitions and investment needs, the sector continues to face significant underfunding and financing gaps that must be urgently addressed.
Ahead of the upcoming discussions on the Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) 2028-2034 at the General Affairs Council on 24 February, the signatories call on Member States to safeguard sufficient EU funding for transport and reinforce the future CEF instrument.
As highlighted by Ms Lamia Kerdjoudj, Secretary General of FEPORT: “If the EU transport sector including ports is the circulatory system of the EU economy, then the TEN-T is the planned vascular network designed to keep that system efficient, integrated, and resilient.”
The open letter to EU Member States, including the full list of signatories, is available here.
