On 8th and 9th of May 2025, ESPO held the 21st edition of the ESPO Conference in Thessaloniki. FEPORT Secretary General, Ms. Lamia Kerdjoudj, attended the event which was a good opportunity to discuss the forthcoming strategy for European ports in the post-2024 era.
As highlighted by ESPO, the year 2024 has been marked by important elections, both in Europe and in the US. And the newly elected leaders are imposing their imprint and political priorities. Since the start of 2025, geopolitical tensions are further escalating and the world order seems to be challenged on a daily basis by announcements in different regions of the planet.
As complex and vital ecosystems for the economy, EU ports are increasingly perceived as key components of an EU strategy aiming at securing the future of the European Union both geoeconomically and geopolitically. European ports are at the centre of today’s challenges and are, at the same time, instrumental in facing them.
Speakers who took the floor at ESPO Conference 2025 provided different views and interesting perspectives on the way EU ports can and must adjust to the new world.
Next important step for EU ports will be the content of the upcoming EU Port Strategy as evoked by Commissioner Tzitzikostas.
