FEPORT Attends to the Presentation of the Italian Maritime Economy Report 2025 at the European Parliament – Brussels

On 6 November, FEPORT Secretariat attended the presentation of the Italian Maritime Economy Report 2025 in the European Parliament, an event hosted by MEPs Danilo Della Valle and Brando Benifei and organised by SRM with Intesa Sanpaolo.

The Report offers an updated overview of Italy’s maritime economy and the broader Euro-Mediterranean context, highlighting how geopolitical tensions and evolving tariff regimes are reshaping trade flows and port competitiveness. Speakers underlined that Italian ports remain essential to Europe’s resilience but are increasingly exposed to disruptions in the Mediterranean and shifts in global shipping patterns.

Discussions also touched on the impact of ETS Maritime on the attractiveness of EU ports, with concerns raised about potential competitive distortions if mitigation measures are not swiftly clarified. The role of ports as emerging energy hubs—both for energy imports and future renewable production—was another prominent theme.

FEPORT welcomed the opportunity to participate and exchange with policymakers and industry representatives. The Report’s findings align with several of FEPORT’s priorities, notably the need for a balanced regulatory framework that supports decarbonisation while safeguarding the competitiveness of EU terminals.
