FEPORT participates to Global Gateway Meeting – Brussels

On the 20th of May, FEPORT attended the Global Gateway 2nd Green Shipping Corridors (GGGSC) workshop.

From the European Commission side, different DGs attended and presented such as DG MOVE, DG ENER and DG INTPA. The workshop was opened by Mr. Koen Doens, Director General at DG INTPA.

Contributions from representatives from the European Commission among others underlined the importance of supporting sustainable fuel production through initiatives such as the Sustainable Transport Investment Plan, the Port Strategy or the Maritime Industrial Strategy.  Furthermore, the Commission highlighted the need for streamlining permitting and certification procedures, a conclusion which was also supported by consultations on RePowerEU and the Clean Industrial Deal.

The workshop featured presentations of case studies by representatives from the port and shipping industry. Mr. Mario Lievens from the Port of Antwerp Bruges, for example, presented the port authority’s efforts to support the development of a hydrogen ecosystem in the Port of Walvis Bay (Namibia) for which Global Gateway funding was granted. Mr. Cédric Jourdain, speaking on behalf of CMA GGM, issued recommendations on how to drive Green Corridors in strategic regions.

During the second part of the workshop, the Joint Research Centre (JRC) presented about the ongoing second phase of the GGGSC study and provided an updated list of ports which have been identified for the Global Gateway.
