FEPORT participates to UNIM’s General Assembly meeting – Le Havre

On July 3rd, 2025, FEPORT Secretary General, Ms Lamia Kerdjoudj, participated to UNIM’s General Assembly meeting held in Le Havre. Mr Edouard Philippe, Former Prime Minister and Mayor of Le Havre, Mr Philippe TABAROT, Transport Minister and Mr Louis Jonquières, President of UNIM gave insightful speeches regarding the challenges for ports.

“There is a need for action from the government to clarify who is doing what in the ports as this has huge implications on the private companies which can not bear all costs and ensure public related tasks” said Mr Louis Jonquières.

“A Port strategy can only be an industrial one given the important activities and industries located in ports” commented Mr Edouard Philippe.

“The cargo handling industry in France plays a crucial role in a difficult context and it therefore deserves support and attention” reiterated Mr Philipp Tabarot.

Mr Bas Janssen, Director of Deltalinqs and FEPORT Board Member, was invited by UNIM to share his thoughts on what are the key success factors of a successful Public-Private Partnership regarding the fight against drug trafficking.

FEPORT Secretary General reminded the audience that “Drugs are not produced in ports, but they are brought via other modes of transport. This is why we need a “Supply Chain Alliance” (and not just a Port one) against drug trafficking. Prevention, Protection and Repression must go together and there is also a need for more systematic harmonised procedures applying in all ports and beyond.

Last but not least, there is an imperative necessity to have more regulatory convergence or complementarity between pieces of legislation regarding security (NIS 2, drug related ones, GDPR, etc…)
