On May 19, 2026, FEPORT Senior Policy Advisor Maarten Boot participated in TOC Europe 2026 in Hamburg, where he presented the SAFEDIGIMAR project during a panel discussion dedicated to digitalisation and cybersecurity in the port ecosystem.
The session brought together industry experts to discuss how digital tools can enhance the performance of port operations and improve coordination between stakeholders across the logistics chain. Discussions notably focused on the opportunities linked to digital transformation as well as the increasing cybersecurity challenges facing ports and maritime operators.
During his intervention, Maarten Boot highlighted that the growing digitalisation of the port ecosystem simultaneously increases both the exposure to and the potential impact of cyber threats. He stressed the importance of strengthening cybersecurity preparedness across the maritime and port sectors in light of the increasing interconnectivity of logistics operations and critical infrastructure systems.
The discussion also addressed the implementation of the EU Directive NIS2, which lays down cybersecurity requirements at technical, operational and governance levels for companies operating in critical sectors, including ports.
In this context, Maarten Boot presented the SAFEDIGIMAR project, a consortium led by France Cyber Maritime and including FEPORT and Federazione del Mare. The initiative aims to support the maritime and port sectors by developing tailor-made solutions designed to strengthen the cybersecurity posture of the ecosystem while supporting compliance with NIS2 requirements.
The exchanges confirmed the growing importance of cybersecurity and digital resilience as essential components of the future competitiveness and security of European ports and logistics chains.
