FEPORT Submits Feedback regarding Sustainable Transport Investment Plan – Brussels

On September 4th, FEPORT responded to the Call for Evidence regarding the upcoming Sustainable Transport Investment Plan (STIP), which the Commission is set to present in the third quarter of this year according to its 2025 work program. The STIP will provide roadmaps for the energy transition in all modes of transport, but will particularly focus on aviation and waterborne transport, featuring policies aimed at boosting public and private investments into renewable and low-carbon fuels.

FEPORT reply expressed support for the upcoming STIP initiative, stressing that after an intense legislative period introducing targets for the uptake and deployment of sustainable fuels in maritime and hinterland transport modes (e.g. AFIR, TEN-T and FuelEU), it is high time to design a dedicated investment plan aimed at ensuring the availability of sustainable fuels and their effective distribution to the transport modes that need them.

Our contribution also pointed to the role of terminal operators as the sustainable fuels will need to be provided to the different transport modes through their facilities, which affects their spatial planning but also aspects related to safety and workforce training.
