FEPORT takes part in TOC Rotterdam panel discussion on business opportunities within the energy transition – Rotterdam

On the 18 June, Mr. Maarten Boot, Senior Policy Advisor of FEPORT, participated in a panel session organised at TOC Rotterdam to discuss business opportunities within the energy transition.

The panel gathered views from different port stakeholders ranging from terminal operators (Mr. Andy Tam, Global Vice President of Energy Management, DP World), the onshore power supply sector (Roland Teixeira de Mattos, President EOPSA – European Onshore Power Supply Association) and port authorities (Dimitri van Eekelen, Vice President Commercial at Sohar Port and Freezone in Oman). The discussion was moderated by Paul Gallie, Managing Director at PSL Advisors.

Central themes that were addressed during the panel related to the role of ports as energy hub, having both a role in the production, purchasing and selling and transport of (clean) energy products. Talking about the rollout of onshore power supply, Mr. Roland Teixeira de Mattos, pointed to the need for a level playing field and ambition when it comes to public subsidies. FEPORT contribution principally focussed on EU climate legislation and how it accelerates decarbonisation but sometimes also creates challenges in terms of competitiveness.
