Stakeholder Dialogue on the Security Dimension of the EU Ports Strategy – Brussels

On 4 November, the Commission held a Stakeholder Dialogue on the security dimension of the EU Ports Strategy in Brussels, as flagged in the Commission’s Daily News and linked to the broader preparation of the future EU Ports Strategy and Industrial Maritime Strategy.

The meeting followed up on the Strategic Dialogues launched in July and zoomed in on issues such as hybrid and cyber threats, resilience of energy and digital infrastructure in ports, and the interaction between security requirements and commercial operations. With ports increasingly described as “gateways for trade, logistics, energy and military mobility”, the security pillar of the forthcoming Strategy is expected to address critical infrastructure protection, risk-based investment, and cooperation between public authorities and private operators.

For private terminal operators, security is not an abstract add-on but a daily operational concern. FEPORT has consistently underlined that any future security regime must remain proportionate and predictable, avoiding fragmented national interpretations that could disrupt logistics chains or discourage investment in port assets.
