Women in Transport Platform for Change Reflections from the Meeting – Brussels

On March 25, FEPORT attended the Women in Transport Platform for Change meeting. This exchange, organised at the initiative of the European Commission, brought together stakeholders from both the private and public sectors to engage on the progress and challenges of gender equality in the transport sector.

From a career point of view, several topics were addressed, including a study to be published in April 2025 in the Journal of Air Transport Management, the conclusions of which argue that the diversity of perspectives in decision-making, brought about by increased representation of women, encourages more innovative and balanced approaches. The European Union Aviation Safety Agency adds that for real progress to be made in gender equality in the transport sector, it is vital to nurture inclusive corporate cultures, make STEM and management career paths visible to women, and provide customised support for women throughout their professional development.

Regarding safety, the European Transport Workers’ Federation presented its renewed campaign to combat violence and harassment against women in the workplace, phenomena that are still all too prevalent in the transport sector. Uber also presented its ‘Uber by Women’ initiative, which connects female drivers with female passengers and increases the level of safety both behind the steering wheel and in the back seats.

The meeting also reaffirmed the importance of engaging young people. The recent dialogue between young people and Commissioner Tzitzikostas demonstrated how essential the voices of young people, including young women, are in shaping a fairer and more inclusive future for Europe’s transport sector.
